Aberrant muscles at the Guyon’s canal

چکیده
At the wrist the ulnar nerve passes through a fibroosseous tunnel known as “Guyon’s canal” or “distal ulnar tunnel” [1]. The clinical importance of this tunnel is that it may become a site of ulnar nerve compression [1-8]. Variety of causes has been determined for such compression including trauma, lipoma, false aneurysm of the ulnar artery, ganglion cyst and rarely aberrant muscular slips [2,4,8-11]. This paper demonstrates a detailed description of two variant abductor digiti minimi muscles of the hand. The relationship of these muscles to the neurovascular bundle in Guyons’s canal may explain their possible association with ulnar nerve entrapment at the region of the wrist.

Anatomical Variations of Guyon’s Canal Contents: A Case Report and Incidence in South Australian Population
Ulnar nerve compression has been reported in association with variations in the contents of Guyon’s canal, such as the presence of accessory muscles. In the current case study we report on two variations found concurrently in the same hand. Firstly, the presence of an accessory head of the abductor digiti minimi that originated principally from the tendon of palmaris longus in the lower third o...

Purpose: To report a variation in ulnar nerve and its importance in carpal tunnel syndrome surgery.Case report: The case is a patient that due to pain in carpal region and parasthesia in the second and third digits of both hands had referred. In physical examination there were phalan test and tinel sign. Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conducting (NC) confirmed the carpal tunnel syndrome and t...

Physical examination revealed muscular wasting of the interossei and the hypothenar eminence, and grade M3 (MRC classification) weakness isolated to the ulnar-innervated intrinsic muscles of the hand. Sensory function in the hand was normal. Electromyographic nerv...
متن کاملAccessory Abductor Digiti Minimi Muscle: A Potential Cause of Ulnar Neuropathy at Wrist
Ulnar nerve compression at wrist is manifested either pathologically due to ganglia or neoplasms, or anatomically by the presence of accessory muscles in the hypothenar region. Accessory abductor digiti minimi muscle is an additional muscle encountered rarely in the wrist; presence of which causes high risk of ulnar neuropathy. We report here a case of unilateral accessory abductor digiti minim...

nerve entrapment at the wrist or hand that can cause motor, sensory or combined motor and sensory loss depending on the localization of entrapment along the canal. The most common etiological factor is the compression of the ulnar nerve at the wrist by a ganglion. However, other conditions such as anomalous musculotendinous arches, lipomas, diseases of the ulnar artery, fractures of the hamate,...
